Food remains one of Gettysburg’s main claims to fame. Especially, lunchtime is eagerly anticipated here. Well, after a hectic morning of sightseeing, most people are famished and look forward to a satiating lunch. We recommend these three places to satiate your hunger.
One Lincoln
Opened in 2013, One Lincoln Food and Spirits is situated in the heart of the city next to the Gettysburg Hotel in Lincoln Square. It remains open from 7 AM till midnight and offers both indoor and outdoor seating. It is the perfect place to take in the brilliant surroundings while gorging on comfort food. Along with the top-shelf spirits, the restaurant offers some of the most delectable dishes such as Swiss Chicken Wellington, Reuben Sandwich, Crab Macaroni & Cheese, and Chicken & Biscuits. The restaurant is ideal for families, couples and casual social meets. One Lincoln also serves breakfasts and dinners.
The Pub and Restaurant
If you’ve not had a proper breakfast and have been sightseeing for a long time, The Pub and Restaurant is the place for you. To put it mildly, the food is fit for royalty. The menu features delicious food-fare such as Chili con carne, pumpernickel bread bowls filled with salads, homemade soups, pizzas, burgers and sandwiches. Entrées include steak, seafood and chicken preparations along with Mexican specialties such as nachos, burritos and quesadillas. The highlights are desserts such as Bourbon Street Pecan Pie, hot brownie sundaes with ice-cream and Chocolate Lovin’ Spoonful Cake. Sheer Bliss!
Herr Tavern & Publick House
How about going back to the early 19th century to have food in a cosy, homely setting next to a fireplace? Having lunch at Herr Tavern & Publick House will make you feel like you have stepped into a 19th century novel. Situated in the Inn at Herr Ridge, lunch is only served four days a week; Wednesdays through Saturdays, from 11 AM to 3 PM. The menu is just as luxurious as the ambiance, consisting of pastrami reuben sandwiches, roast beef, prime steak, venison bratwurst, along with titbits such as light entrées, seafood and sandwiches. We recommend you try their Nutty Chicken in a pineapple – chicken salad served with pecan nuts in pineapple. Alternatively, if you like seafood, go for Lobster BLT which brings two delicious things –bacon and lobster– together.
