Travellers have been urged to check their insurance policies thoroughly before strapping on a parachute while on holiday.

Adventurous holidaymakers who are tempted into an impromptu bungee jump or jet ski while abroad have been advised to make sure their insurance covers them before doing so.

Maxine Baker, travel insurance manager at MoneySupermarket.com, reminded those who are likely to be tempted into an extreme sport while abroad that their wallet could also take a hit in the event of an injury.

“Any daredevil holidaymakers jetting off in pursuit of an adventure-filled holiday should pay special attention to what their travel insurance covers them for,” she advised.

Research from the price comparison website found that men are more likely than women to take part in an extreme sport – with 41 per cent and 33 per cent respectively saying they have done so in the past.

Similar advice came from John Dacey, lifestyle claims manager from AXA, earlier this year, as he said that travel insurance should be considered as essential as the bungee rope tied around the feet of holidaymakers.
