The seas around Phuket are equally attractive to holidaymakers and professional sailors

The seas around the Thai paradise of Phuket are extremely popular with holidaymakers who enjoy the tropical temperatures and idyllic views.

For areas of outstanding natural beauty it is hard to beat the turquoise seas and white sand that are on offer, but the coastal hotspot was recently the site of some exciting sporting action.

Tourists in the resort for the Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek saw that the best was saved for the last day as gusts of 15 knots propelled the boats around the southern tip of the island.

Rick Pointon in Jing Jing took both the IRC Racing I and IRC Overall comfortably, but the Sportsboats class went to a thrilling conclusion with Ray Waldron just having enough to hang on to the victory.

Anyone wanting to see the action for themselves could head to Thailand in December for the King’s Cup.
