The King’s Cup Regatta will be held in Phuket from December 1st to 8th.

The seas around the idyllic Thai paradise of Phuket are one of the most beautiful features of the popular holiday destination.

Normally, tourists like to wade and swim in the crystal clearer, warm waters but in the first week of December bathers will be replaced by boats as Phuket hosts the King’s Cup Regatta.

The event sees some of the world’s best sailors head to Thailand to compete in the major international yatching event – already more than 80 vessels from 18 countries have signed up to take part.

Not only was this event initiated to celebrate the birthday of King Bhumibol way back in 1987, but this year the competition coincides with the monarch’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations too – meaning that it really does have the royal seal of approval.

Proceedings get underway in the Kata Beach region on December 1st, with the sailing and partying taking place until December 8th.
