A pioneering Facebook app is expected to boost Cape Town’s visitor numbers.
South Africa tourism authorities are expecting a huge increase in the number of people booking flights to Cape Town from next month.
The Mother City is already one of the most popular destinations in the period from November through February, as its climate offers many in the northern hemisphere a chance of some winter sun, but the success of a new Facebook app will swell the influx this year.
It is a world-first creation from Cape Town Tourism, Ogilvy Cape Town and Flow Communications.
“The Facebook app is a creative user experience that utilises the latest technology and Facebook’s immense global reach to raise awareness of one of Africa’s most beautiful and inspiring cities,” said Cape Town Tourism chief executive Mariette du Toit-Helmbold.
Cape Town was recently the recipient of a Top Beach Destination gong at the 2012 World Travel Awards and the Facebook campaign hopes to make the likes of Camps Bay and Table Mountain more prominent in the minds of tourists booking holidays.
