New survey shows that sun worshippers are spending an average of £1,470 to fly to destinations with ‘guaranteed’ sunshine
Britons are planning to escape the poor weather by enjoying a holiday in South Africa, a new survey has revealed.
Virgin Atlantic polled a total of 2,000 people has revealed that UK holidaymakers are spending an average of £1,470 to fly to destinations with ‘guaranteed’ sunshine.
As well as South Africa, many sun worshippers are also booking flights to the Caribbean and Florida.
Virgin Atlantic spokeswoman Janine Doy said: “Given the amount of rain we’ve had in the past few weeks, it’s not surprising how much money people will spend to get some guaranteed summer sunshine.
“Holidaymakers who would have previously opted for cheaper destinations are trading up because they simply can’t stand this weather.”
On average, Brits spend a total of £470 on food during their holiday, while those from the East Midlands spend the most (£496) on new outfits, luggage and toiletries before trips.
Furthermore, Londoners were found to buy five outfits before they go away.
