Cleopatra’s Beach could be a great destination for couples seeking a relaxing Egypt break.

The secluded luxury provided by Cleopatra’s Beach makes it an ideal destination for newlyweds or couples planning a holiday in Egypt.

Found on the opposite side of the biggest lagoon of the coastal resort Marsa Matrouh, it, as legend has it, was used as a bathing spot for ancient Egypt’s last pharaoh and her lover Mark Anthony.

A subterranean passage linked one of her villas to the beach and visitors can follow in her footsteps by taking a dip in the clear waters, although the strong currents can make swimming close to the rocks tricky.

The idyllic surroundings can be perfect for couples who want to enjoy some relaxing time together, but beaches and lagoons are not all Marsa Matrouh has to offer.

Nearby shops present a chance to purchase dates grown in nearby Siwa, which are said to be some of the country’s finest. In addition to regular dates, varieties stuffed with almonds or chocolate are also on offer.
