This is the advice of Frances Tuke of Abta, the Travel Association, who said that DIY holidays can be a risk and that not all products bought in this manner may be financially protected in case of the firm going bust.
“The regulations that are involved in financial protection are very complicated. As a traveller, you do need to be aware of what you’re booking and ask,” she stressed.
Ms Tuke added that it may be worth booking holidays using a credit card for extra peace of mind.

This means that all travel arrangements – including flights and package holidays – booked through the company are financially protected.
