The number of people living in Dubai has passed the two million mark.

People taking flights to Dubai could be planning on staying in the emirate as it was announced the population numbers have passed two million for the first time.

The latest report from the Dubai Statistics Centre showed there are now 2,000,072 people living in the state.

The rise in numbers is particularly marked as it has increased by 22,072 during the last quarter of the year alone.

In total, the increase represents a five per cent population increase over the past 12 months.

It was also found that a high proportion of people living in the emirate were male, which has been put down to the large number of people who have moved to region in order to work.

Many of the new residents travelling on flights to Dubai may have been able to get assistance at the airport from the new virtual assistants that have been fitted at the terminal.
