4,000 hotel rooms to be added this year

Dubai is continuing to grow, according to the latest industry figures on hotel rooms.

At the end of the first quarter of 2012, there were 577 hotel rooms in Dubai with the total number of rooms and flats standing at 75,171, Gulf News reports.

According to Ernst and Young, a further 4,000 branded hotel rooms will be added this year and Yousef Wahbah, a head of transaction real estate at the company, told the news provider: “Compared to 2011, which saw very muted hotel development, this number is expected to be much higher reflecting the continued growth in the city.”

As well as more rooms, Dubai is welcoming more visitors too, with the number of guest nights rising to 32.8 million, a 23 per cent year-on-year increase.

According to a recent MasterCard Index, Dubai will welcome a total of 8.8 million international visitors in 2012, which will push the city’s world ranking up to eighth from ninth in 2011.
