People going on holidays to Dubai will soon be able to benefit from having two Bloomingdale’s stores in the city.
The American chain – owned by Macy’s – has announced that it is to open its first two stores outside the US within the forthcoming Dubai Mall.
One of the outlets will be for clothing and accessories and the other will be for homeware, with both scheduled to open in February 2010.
Terry Lundgren, chief executive of Macy’s, said: “Dubai offers a unique opportunity for Bloomingdale’s. It is a fast-growing, affluent marketplace that has emerged as an international destination for tourism, sporting events and business.”
He added that the stores will serve both frequent travellers, as well as people who may not have visited Bloomingdale’s before.
The Dubai Mall is scheduled to open on October 30th this year and will make up part of ‘Downtown Dubai’.
It will have an internal floor area of 5.9 million square feet making it one of the world’s largest shopping centres.
