The Abu Dhabi Golf Championship is set to begin later this month.

Golf fans could be planning to take flights to Abu Dhabi later this month as a major event is poised to begin in the emirate.

The Abu Dhabi Golf Championship will start on January 26th 2012 and will see some of the world’s top golfers taking to the green of the Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

A total of 120 players will start the event to battle it out to win the coveted falcon trophy and the prize money.

German Martin Kaymer is the current holder of the prize but it will be hotly contested to January 29th, with four rounds played over 72 holes.

During the event there are plenty of other activities to keep people of all ages entertained, with free golf lessons on hand for those who wish to improve their swing.

Travellers on flights to Abu Dhabi could be interested to know the state is taking steps to reduce its energy consumption as it recently announced it was having energy saving light bulbs installed to 600,000 fittings.
