Suggested places to stay included a four-star hotel two kilometres away from Broadbeach, a tropical rainforest island resort and an adventure activity hotel on Moreton Island.

Sands Turtle Beach Resort on the Gold Coast is within walking distance from Mermaid Beach and has six swimming pools for adults and children to choose from. It also offers two games rooms, a cinema showing family films, a playground and an 18-hole mini-golf course.

Voyages Dunk Island, just south of Cairns, entertains the children with rainforest discovery walks, turtle spotting, trips to the farm and treasure hunts. For the bigger kids, a day spa and snorkelling are popular options.

Tangalooma Island Resort on Moreton Island allows guests to feed bottlenose dolphins as well as take part in adventure activities such as parasailing, tobogganing, quad bike tours and whale watching.

Queensland is known as the sunshine state of Australia and according to the tourist board it experiences 300 warm and sunny days a year.
