People going on holidays to Australia this year, in particular to the Adelaide region, may be interested to hear recent news from a number of international travel award ceremonies.

According to Travel Mole, Kangaroo Island – Australia’s third-largest after Tasmania and Melville Island – has been voted as the best island in the Asia-Pacific region by National Geographic Traveller Magazine.

In addition, it recently won best regional food destination in the Vogue Traveler magazine awards.

Kangaroo Island regional tourism manager Tania O’Neil said: “With the awards Kangaroo Island is receiving, we are making it on to the itineraries of international tourists, right next to Uluru, Sydney and the Great Barrier Reef.”

Tourism Australia hopes the accolades will encourage tourists to see the island as a desirable holiday destination and an alternative to the more common tourist hubs.

Kangaroo island is situated 112 km south-west of Adelaide at the entrance of Gulf Saint Vincent and can be accessed by ferry or plane from the Australian mainland.
