Travellers looking for a unique luxury holiday in Australia may wish to get themselves marooned on Wilson Island, a travel journalist has said.
A small coral cay in the Great Barrier Reef, located off the coast of Queensland, Wilson Island only covers two hectares of land.
“Sumptuous offshore coral gardens, a white-sand beach where giant turtles lay their eggs at night, and forests filled with birdlife,” was how Anthony Perrottet, writing for the Times described the island.
“Wilson’s scale is essential to its attraction,” he added.
On the tiny island, six designer-inspired tents have been erected to allow 12 guests to call the island home at any one time.
According to Mr Perrottet, staying on Wilson Island was like deluxe camping, with a king-size bed on a raised wooden platform.
Wilson Island is located just north of the tropic of Capricorn and can be reached by boat or helicopter from the mainland.
