Auckland has been voted Australasia’s top destination in the 2012 World Travel Awards.
People catching flights to Auckland to enjoy the southern hemisphere summer in the next few months will know that they are heading to Australasia’s premier holiday destination.
The Kiwi capital has beaten the likes of Bora Bora, Sydney, The Whitsunday Islands and Fiji’s Yasawa Islands to take the title of the continent’s top resort at the 2012 World Travel Awards.
Now in their 19th year, the accolades are highly respected in the travel industry and are an acknowledged measure of quality. This is the second time in three years that Auckland has won the prize.
“We are consistently ranked as one of the best places in the world to visit, live, study and invest, and this latest award is further testament to that,” Auckland Tourism’s events and economic development acting general manager Jason Hill said.
The votes are cast by 183,000 travel professionals in over 160 countries and the regional winners will compete at the World Travel Awards 2012 Grand Final in New Delhi on December 12th.
