Egypt has been nominated for six awards in the World Travel Awards.

People taking flights to Egypt could be happy to hear that the country has been nominated for six awards.

The nation has picked up the half-dozen nods from the World Travel Awards, with the resort of Sharm el Sheik gaining several of the nominations.

These included being put forward for the world’s leading cruise port and the world’s leading destination.

Hotels in the nation were also recognised for their high standards, with the Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh and the Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza being singled out for recognition.

The winners of the awards will be announced for the Africa and Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony on September 16th 2011 at the Egypt Hall at Soho Square in Sharm el Sheik.

Some people could be getting flights to Egypt for more energetic reasons, as it has been announced the country will host the final leg of men’s football qualifiers for African nations ahead of the 2012 Olympics.
