Non-eurozone destinations made the top three most searched for flight destinations proving their popularity for holidays this summer, reported statistics from Skyscanner.
Flights to Thailand saw the biggest increase – recording a rise of 271 per cent this year compared to summer 2008.
According to the website, holidays to Bangkok are becoming less of a destination for backpackers and more of a mainstream resort option for families and couples.
“Value for money is the biggest factor influencing this summer’s travel trends. The strength of the euro seems to have scared off many travellers [from eurozone destinations],” said Barry Smith, co-founder of the company.
The official tourism site for Bangkok recommends night-time sightseeing on the banks of the Chao Phraya river to see the Wat Arun Ratchawararam temple – one of the city’s most famous landmarks.
