Travellers who have booked a holiday to South Africa will probably already be aware of the country’s infamous vineyards, but those visiting the country in August may wish to attend a special themed event.

Travellers who have booked a holiday to South Africa will probably already be aware of the country’s infamous vineyards, but those visiting the country in August may wish to attend a special themed event.

According to event’s guide WhatsOnWhen, the Hermanus Wine and Food Fair was named one of the ten best wine shows in the country in a recent nomination.

Taking place from August 7th to 9th this year, the festival is in its 12th year.

Some 70 different wineries from the country will feature their produce in the show, including local grapes from Elim and Elgin.

Friday night of the event will kick off with a dinner accompanied by cocktails and a wine auction.

Over the Saturday and Sunday, visitors can choose from a variety of the 250 different wines on offer to taste, while enjoying the various entertainment and arts and crafts on offer.

Hermanus.co.za claims that the area is one of the best land-based destinations for whale watching and is also the only place in the world to have a “Whale Crier” who blows a horn when whales are spotted on the central sea route.
