One newspaper has offered some tips for people taking flights to Cape Town who want to do more than watch football on their break.

People who are boarding flights to Cape Town but who want to see more of the city than just its football stadium may be interested in some tips about the best places to visit. The Daily Telegraph has suggested some sights, restaurants and other activities to see and do while visiting the city.

Among the must-see attractions in Cape Town is Robben Island, the site of a notorious apartheid jail where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated, which journalist Anna Murphy strongly recommends.

She commented: “You are shown around by ex-prisoners and what they have to say is remarkable in itself.”

For those looking for somewhere to eat, Ms Murphy noted that the Roundhouse “puts a mouthwateringly modern spin on South African cuisine” and added that Melissa’s Food Shop is a great place to stop off for lunch.

While those looking for some retail therapy while their partners watch the World Cup matches should head to Kloof Street for fashion boutiques or Africa Nova for modern arts and crafts.
