A restaurant in South Africa has climbed the rankings of the world’s 50 best restaurants.

People who have booked flights to South Africa will be able to experience food from one of the best restaurants in the world during their stay.

The S Pellegrino list of the world’s 50 best restaurants has placed South African establishment La Colombe in 12th spot, seeing it climb by 26 places compared with last year.

It was also awarded the title of the Acqua Panna Best Restaurant in South Africa.

Just one other eating establishment made it into the list this year, with Le Quartier Francais in Franschhoek moving up six places to reach number 31.

La Colombe is headed up by British-born chef Luke Dale Roberts, who has been head of the kitchen at the restaurant since 2006.

In 2008, he picked up the titles of Chef of the Year and Restaurant of the Year at the Prudential Eat Out Awards.

Writing for the Guardian, Stefan Chomka commented: “Dale Roberts’ trademarks are bold flavours, textures and presentation, so don’t expect anything too simple.”
