Anyone who wants to offset their flights to Cape Town may be interested in using a new taxi service.

People who are booking flights to Cape Town ahead of this summer’s  World Cup are being given the opportunity to reduce their environmental impact once they arrive in the city.

According to CNN, one local taxi firm has invested in an entire fleet of cabs which run on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which emits approximately 10 per cent less carbon dioxide than standard petrol.

Founder of the company Amiene van der Merwe told the news provider that The Green Cab also offsets its remaining CO2 output.

She commented: “I think that tourists [becoming] are increasingly aware, eco-conscious, responsible travellers and if they have a solution which is as affordable as a more dirty solution, why not go with the green option?”

The service could appeal to some of the many football fans expected to travel to the city during June and July for the Football World Cup.

Cape Town is due to host several matches, including one of the semi final clashes.
