Cape Town is set to stage an Indian-inspired Diwali Festival next month.

Travellers taking flights to Cape Town next month may feel they have mistakenly boarded a service to Delhi.

That is because the African city is holding a high profile Indian-inspired Diwali Festival from October 15th.

Reports have suggested that the event – which is scheduled to take place at Ratanga Junction – will include a sari modelling competition.

Aside from this, the Hindu ritual will also feature Bhangra music, children’s rides, fireworks and dancing.

Organisers have insisted they have gone the extra mile to make the 2011 version of the event special.

“We are bringing out all the stops so that you leave the festival with a memory of a lifetime. We will engulf you in the elements of earth, wind, fire and water,” an organiser stated.

Chief executive officer of Cape Town Routes Unlimited Calvyn Gilfellan recently suggested that the 2010 Fifa World Cup – which was held across the whole country – left many people with a positive view of South Africa as a tourist-friendly destination.
