The celebrations of Auckland Anniversary Day have been a huge hit among people in the city.

People who recently took flights to Auckland may have been among the people to attend the Oceanbridge Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta.

Taking place on the city’s waterfront today (January 30th 2012), attendees were treated to seeing a huge array of boats on the water as they took part in a flotilla of craft, while street entertainers and performers showcased their skills of the quayside.

There was also much excitement in the Viaduct Harbour as teams took part in dragon boat racing, which also helped to mark the arrival of the year of the dragon in the Chinese calendar.

A number of attractions were also on offer to entertain younger visitors, with a children’s theme park being set up, as well as mini sail boat races being held.

Some people who took flights to Auckland recently may have been planning to hear new music rather than watching the regatta, as the Laneway Festival was also held in the city today.
