Darren McCormick, head of aviation at Travel Counsellors, explained: “There are more last minute deals around than ever before, especially long haul … you will still be able to get good value for money.”

He added that in recent weeks it had become evident that travellers were becoming more confident in their spending and more and more people were making last-minute travel plans.

Bookings for last-minute holidays have risen by 20 per cent over the last six weeks, according to figures published by youtravel.com on June 24th.
