The national carrier of Maldives, Maldivian is starting new direct flights to two major cities of India from Male. Commencing November 2012, it will provide wide connectivity to foreign tourists travelling on these routes.

Foreign travellers planning to book flights to Maldives will soon have added flight options when it comes to taking connecting flights to this Indian Ocean beach paradise via India.

Maldivian, the national carrier of Maldives, is going to start new direct flights to India’s two popular destinations Mumbai and Chennai. The new flight services are the part of airline’s regional expansion and will commence in November 2012.

The airline officials said “We want to enhance the connectivity between the two countries. For this, we are planning to have direct Maldivian Airlines flights between Mumbai and Male from November 15.”

The airline will deploy an additional aircraft A320 on these routes and will be offering 14 seats in the business class and 138 in the economy class to cater to both the affluent passengers and budget travellers seeking comparatively cheaper flights.

The national carrier will run three flights per week to these cities of India. The flights to Mumbai will operate on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday while flights to Chennai will operate alternatively on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

As per the sources, initially the airline will fly from India connecting Mumbai to Male thrice a week and depending on the traffic it will slowly be enhanced to five days a week. The national carrier is also contemplating to fly directly to Delhi, the capital of India, from next year.

Direct flights between these major tourist destinations will definitely lure tourists from the UK and rest of the Europe as well as other western countries, especially those who plan on a twin centre holiday, as they will be able to choose from a plethora of flights options for a seamless connectivity to India and Maldives.
