Skyscanner notes that while the majority of people are keen to avoid gaining first-hand experience of jails and cells, many members of the public like to find out more about judicial systems around the world.
As such, it has detailed a number of the most famous prisons in the world that can be visited.
These include Robben Island in South Africa, which was an isle that served as “a place of banishment, isolation and imprisonment” between the 17th and 20th centuries and held Nelson Mandela for 27 years.
Robben Island has been a Unesco World Heritage site since 1999.
