Visitors to Abu Dhabi could be among those who get to see a performance by Coldplay.
The number of people looking to take flights to Abu Dhabi in time for new year could increase after it was confirmed Coldplay would be performing at an event.
The group will be the headline act at the event on December 31st, which is also being held to herald the start of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011/2012.
Chris Martin and his band will perform in a purpose built venue which will be erected next to the race village, with around 10,000 fans expected to attend.
It is the second time the group has performed in the emirate, as they played to 20,000 people in 2009.
“We promised a destination hosting like no other when we began our Volvo Ocean Race campaign and the confirmation of Coldplay’s new year’s eve concert signals our intention to live up to that commitment,” said Mubarak Al Muhairi, director general of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority.
Flights to Abu Dhabi and other areas in the Middle East could become more popular in the coming months, as Tom Hall, contributor at Lonely Planet, recently noted that trips to the region are becoming more attractive.
