A new campaign is set to boost the number of cheap flights to Queensland, claims a tourism official.Anthony Hayes, Tourism Queensland chief executive, believes the launch of a new tourism brand for the Australian state will play an important role in increasing interest in the region.

The new $2.2 million (£1.35 million) campaign will include various offers including cheap flights from Virgin Blue.

“Over the coming weeks this campaign will offer a range of great Virgin Blue airfares to Queensland, which will be promoted via television, radio, online and outdoor advertising, to followers of Tourism Queensland’s social media sites”, explained Mr Hayes.

Queensland is already a popular destination for Australians, according to Mr Hayes. In the 12 months to June 2010, domestic residents spent over $6 million (£3.67 million) in the state.

Virgin Blue flies to 32 destinations across Australia including offering flights to Sydney and Brisbane.
