Those planning cheap holidays to Australia may like to wake a few hours early during their trip to visit a new dawn viewing platform at Uluru.

A new dawn viewing platform has been established at the sacred site of Uluru in Australia’s Northern Territory, it has emerged.

Designed to allow visitors the opportunity to view the fiery red natural feature as the sun rises, the station boasts shaded areas, walkways and raised pathways and will open on October 8th 2009.

The platform, which cost £10 million to construct, was developed following consultations with traditional landowners and follows on from the establishment of a scenic 11-kilometre road leading up to the area in 2008.

It could also provide a conscious-alleviating alternative to climbing the red rock, which is something that Vince Forrester, a spokesman for its Aboriginal owners, urged tourists not to do in July.

A consultation over a possible ban on people scaling Uluru, or Ayers Rock as it is more commonly known, is currently underway in Australia and is an issue that has been much debated over the years.
