Anyone going on holidays to Australia may wish to pay a visit to Queensland in order to experience the nation’s cleanest beach.
The Strand Beach in Townsville has been given the honour at the Keep Australia Beautiful awards, which were held in Sydney on Tuesday (September 16th).
It beat hundreds of nominees, with Judge Chris Tola recommending it as everything a beach should be.
“The Strand’s infrastructure ensures every aspect of this beach, from the catchment to the reef, is in the best condition possible,” he said.
It also won an award for protection of the environment thanks to efforts from residents and the local authorities.
Townsville is situated on the north-eastern coast of Australia, adjacent to the Great Barrier Reef in the dry tropics region.
The Strand is one of its most popular attractions, along with Reef HQ – a large tropical aquarium that houses many of the reef’s fish – and the Museum of Tropical Queensland.
