A woman aged 102 has taken the step to emigrate to New Zealand.

Some people on flights to Auckland could decide they would like to follow in the footsteps of one 102 year old and move to live in the country.

Despite having lived in the UK for more than a century, Louise Sydes decided that she wanted to live the rest of her life in New Zealand.

As her nursing home is set to shut down, Mrs Sydes’ daughter and son-in-law suggested that she went to live with them.

On her arrival in Auckland, Mrs Sydes said there were many things that she was looking forward to, including eating the local lamb and experiencing her first summertime Christmas.

“It’s her birthday on Boxing Day, so it’s going to be a special one this year,” her daughter Sue said.

People of flights to Auckland may have also recently seen the remarkable sight of a couple getting engaged in the cockpit of the Dreamliner aircraft as it made its first journey from the city.
