Mumbai authorities will work alongside tourism agencies to improve tourists’ experiences.

Mumbai is asking authorities to step up their efforts to display the city’s and Maharashtra state’s popular monuments and archaeological sites in a more appealing way to tourists.

Chief among these will be the Gateway to India, which is the region’s most recognisable relic and remains a striking symbol of the British Raj era nearly 100 years after its completion.

However, other sites such as the mosque and tomb, 500-year old Haji Ali and the Prince of Wales Museum will also benefit from the new plans.

According to the Times of India, so far chief secretary Jayant Kumar Banthia has asked local authorities to sign a memorandum of understanding with central tourism agencies in a bid to ensure these sites are better promoted to tourists.

As a result, the infrastructure around the monuments is set to be improved and maintained on a regular basis.
