A new frequent fliers programme has been introduced by two of the world’s largest airlines.

A new agreement between two of the world’s biggest airlines could benefit people who are taking flights to Abu Dhabi and other locations.

Etihad Airlines, which is based in the emirate, is joining forces with American Airlines to offer passengers the chance to redeem their frequent flyer points across both of the carriers.

Beginning on October 18th 2011, the members of Etihad Airways’ Etihad Guest frequent flyer programme and American’s AAdvantage programme can now use their points on eligible journeys.

Peter Baumgartner, Etihad chief commercial officer, said: “Through this agreement, we are able to expand our reach for our loyal guests far beyond the destinations we serve directly, as well as offer expanded services for our partner’s guests.”

Recently, people who take flights to Abu Dhabi and other locations with Etihad have been advised that the carrier will soon be starting a route to the Libyan capital of Tripoli once the non-fly zone restrictions are lifted.
