Taking cheap flights and heading off on a cruise need not just be a holiday for traditional cruise passengers, as modern boats try and appeal to younger travellers.

Taking a cruise is a holiday that could appeal to people of all ages, a holiday expert has said.Editor in chief at Cruise Critic Carolyn Spencer Brown said that cruises can appeal to travellers of all ages and that unusual cruises are rising in popularity as a holiday, which could be of interest to those taking cheap flights – jetting off on a flight to the starting destination of a sailing break is common on such holidays.

Talking about cruises, Ms Spencer Brown said: “Cruise lines have vastly improved the variety of activities on offer and updated classes to reflect the shifting demographic of those onboard.”

She noted that activities which could appeal to the younger holidaymaker include digital photography classes and courses in cooking. Famous name chefs including Marco Pierre White also regularly hold culinary demonstrations on board some ships, she commented, which could appeal to those taking a cheap flight ahead of the start of a cruise.
