A newspaper has offered some advice for people going on ski trips, perhaps during holidays to Australia.

The Guardian recommends that people who have not skied before should borrow equipment from friends and hire skis and boots when at the resort in order to avoid purchasing equipment that may not be used again.

It adds that getting fit before heading off will minimise the risk of injury, either by joining the gym, doing hill walking or practising pre-ski exercises at home.

Regarding when to take the holiday, the newspaper advises that booking a break in January or March will help to avoid the crowds and get the best-priced deals.

Finally, for those travelling with children, choosing a resort with a swimming pool, a games room and other non-ski activities will help to entertain little ones who may get bored of the piste, the piece states.

People wishing to take ski holidays to Australia may wish to consider booking flights to Melbourne, from which they can reach resorts around the Alpine and Mt Buffalo national parks.

The closest to Melbourne after Mt Donna Buang is Lake Mountain, which is known as Australia’s premier cross-country ski resort and the third most visited cross-country alpine resort in the world.
