Britons are continuing to look for ways in which they can save money on their holidays while still going to their planned destinations, one expert has said.
Association of British Travel Agents (Abta) spokesperson Frances Tuke said that one kind of accommodation is becoming more popular in particular.
“What we call ‘posh camping’ [has] been very popular over the last year or so. The kind of camping where you get semi-permanent structures,” she pointed out.
The comments follow a report in the National earlier this week that more people on holidays to Thailand are booking hostels as they seek better value for money on their trips.
It suggested that people are still determined to get away to the south Asian country, but in ways that will not stretch their budget too far.
An Abta survey from October found that 83 per cent of people who have been on a recent overseas holiday are planning to take another one in the next 12 months, while 47 per cent will not adjust their travel plans because of the economic situation.
