People hoping to get good offers on their holiday bookings would do well to monitor offers from online travel companies, it has been suggested.

Sharon Livingstone, founder of the Travel Magazine, said that while booking early generally offers the best value for money, keeping up with online newsletters could help travellers to save money too.

“The credit crunch is turning us savvy at bargain hunting. My advice is to sign up to as many newsletters as possible because that’s where online travel agents first promote their offers,” she commented.

Holiday Which? recently reported that 44 per cent of holidaymakers still use high street travel representatives to book some or all of their trips, even though this may not be the most cost-effective method.

Tom Hall, editor of the Lonely Planet travel guides, said last month that the best value holidays can be found outside the eurozone in mid to long-haul destinations.

Anyone looking for such holidays could consider booking flights to Dubai – an increasingly popular destination for Britons – with Emirates.
