The Delhi Metro has been named as the best clean development at the Urban Mobility Conference 2011.

The prize was given to director of the Metro Mangu Singh on behalf of the whole organisation by development minister Kamal Nath.

It was awarded after it received recognition for being the first rail-based system in the world to be certified by the United Nations, as the service has helped to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the whole city since it was introduced.

The system also carries more than 1.8 million people every day.
