Not enough Brits are aware of which countries require vaccinations and health precautions, it has been claimed.

Britons heading off on their cheap long-haul holidays need to take the recommended precautions against health threats before they go.

This is the advice of Rachel Croft, head of Post Office Travel Insurance, who said that although this sounds obvious, not enough people research which vaccines they need before heading off.

She added that often, preconceptions are wrong, offering the example that many know vaccinations are required for Thailand, but far fewer are aware that they need to be inoculated before visiting Turkey.

Ms Croft said that although many flights and hotels are now booked independently, travel agents could provide more information to their customers on health precautions.

However, ultimately “people need to be more aware that it is their responsibility to be adequately protected when they do go on holiday,” she concluded.

The representative’s comments come after Post Office Travel Insurance research found that 44 per cent of Brits do not check vaccination requirements before going on holiday.
