In an article for Pioneer Press, Corinne Asturias, a consumer strategist who has undertaken research in this field, said that people aged 44 to 62 have both the time and the disposable income to allow them to travel and that they increasingly want more challenging holidays.
“Boomers are looking for trips that will give them the cachet of being adventurous, that push the borders. Their destinations and experiences have to fuel their souls and feed their passion,” she remarked.
Ms Asturias added that popular activities for boomers include bungee jumping, grape stomping and eco-tourism.
In what could be good news people of this age group looking for eco-tourism projects, an initiative is now in place in Thailand which allows visitors to stay in the homes of host families on Koh Yao Noi island, letting them get an authentic Thai experience as well as putting money back into local communities.
