Cancun is a one stop destination for nature lovers, sun bathers or for people who simply love the beach. If you are on a holiday to Cancun, spending at least a day on the Isla Mujeres is a must. Similarly the trip can’t be complete without visiting the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System.
Let’s talk about some of the best places to visit in Cancun, Mexico.

Sian Ka’an
Declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, it’s a huge biosphere reserve, complete with beaches and archaeological and historical sites. Some of these sites are almost 2300 years old. The best part about the beaches here is that they are a part of the biosphere reserve and hence, there is little to no commercialisation.

Chichen Itza
Chichen Itza is a mesmerising site and is included in the list of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Visiting the site would give you a lot of insight into the Mayan civilization and the history of Mexico. At the archaeological sites you will get to see natural, well-like structures called cenotes, where the Mayan people used to sacrifice humans.

Xochimilco or Xoximilco is one of the major tourist destinations in central Mexico. At Xochimilco, you will have a great time riding on the gondola-like boats called trajineras. Enjoy some of the best Mexican cuisine, music, and other cultural aspects during you boat trip. You may be treated to three-course meals, aguas frescas (drinks made of fresh fruits), Tequila, beer, and much more. The tour concludes with a grand party.

Shel-Ha or Xel-Ha
There are many activities one can indulge in here, like sampling a delicious buffet at one of the many restaurants, jumping off from the Cliff of Courage, flying kites with the local children or riding bikes. If you prefer sober pursuits, go explore the Mayan ruins or simply hang a hammock and relax with a drink and a book.
