People travelling to Phuket could have the chance to witness a full lunar eclipse.

People on flights to Phuket could be lucky enough to witness a total lunar eclipse during their stay in the city.

The city will witness the event on December 10th 2011, which happens to coincide with Constitution Day in the country, the Phuket Gazette reported.

People interested in seeing the event could join with the city’s group of amateur stargazers the Sky Club, who will be holding an event at Phuket Rajaphat University.

“The event is open to everybody. We have telescopes for everyone to use. While the eclipse is underway, we will have a speaker describe precisely what they are observing,” assistant professor Dr Sakchai Phetchuai, a physics lecturer at the university, told the newspaper.

Last month, people who are interested in sporting events took flights to Phuket to compete in the city’s triathlon, which saw over 1,000 people taking part – the highest number ever in the race’s 18 year history.
