This is the conclusion of research cited by the Travel Counsellors, which showed that five out of six online travel companies have reported an increase in interest in these countries as couples seek more romance amid the recession.

Certainly, holidays to Thailand could be ideal for honeymooning couples, the website suggests, adding that the country is still largely unspoiled and offers much to experience for tourists.

“There are a plethora of stunning luxury hotels, along with a mix of enchanting culture, breathtaking historic sites and natural beauty,” it concludes.

Earlier this month, Chris Gallon, who recently managed the Directions holiday and Travel show in London, said that more people are seeking adventurous holidays in a bid to experience some local culture, let their hair down and do something out of the ordinary.
