City Sightseeing buses coming to Jozi

South Africa’s most populous city, Johannesburg, is to get its first hop-on hop-off sightseeing buses.

The iconic red City Sightseeing buses, which already operate in 100 cities on six continents around the world, will offer commentary in 17 languages as they make their way around Jozi, as it is known locally.

It will create a safe and convenient way for tourists to explore the huge metropolis, which is located in the province of Gauteng in the north east of the country.

“We are very excited about the new hop-on hop-off buses, which are sure to become a premier tourism experience in Johannesburg, and in future we are looking at bringing the buses to Pretoria too,” said Dawn Roberston, chief executive officer of the Gauteng Tourism Authority.

Of the 8.3 million foreign tourists who visited South Africa in 2011, Gauteng, the ‘Place of Gold’, received nearly half of these international arrivals.
