Environmentally-conscious holidaymakers planning an Australian getaway would do well to consider enjoying one of the country’s many eco-experiences, according to a journalist.

Christine McCabe of the Australian noted that the Kingfisher Bay Resort on Fraser Island offers a range of junior eco-ranger programmes for children between the ages of five and 14 – including orienteering, guided walks, canoeing, rope courses and bush art.

Animal lovers may wish to stop in at the Werribee Open Range Zoo for a behind-the-scenes tour or a day at safari camp, or the Monarto Open Range Zoo, which is one hour’s drive from Adelaide and offers a zoo keeper for a day programme.

Mums and dads can relax in the Aqua Soul Spa during a visit to Heron Island, she added, while younger visitors can participate in the island’s junior ranger programme by earning badges.

Heron Island boasts over 30 dive sites – with more than half located less than 15 minutes from its beach. It is located on the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef and lucky families visiting the site during the nesting period between January and March may get the chance to see turtle hatchlings rushing into the sea.
