According to reports from the owners of the cruise ship the QE2, the vessel could be brought to Cape Town for a period before it is eventually turned into a floating hotel for people taking a holiday in Dubai.
The cruise liner could spend some time docked at the Cape Town port and be opened up to visitors as a stationary hotel before major refurbishment work begins.
Plans for the ship by Emirates real estate developer Nakheel include constructing a glass penthouse in place of the giant red funnel on the ship, which would become the most exclusive hotel room in the Dubai resort, according to the BBC.
If the cruise ship is brought to South Africa, it is thought it will be docked at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
