Tourists will soon find that it is easier to get around Kerala when the Greenfield Tourist Highway is finished.
Work will finally get underway on the proposed Greenfield Tourist Highway in Kerala soon, almost a decade after the idea was first deemed feasible.
The Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB) will finalise the consultants it will use to prepare the work this week.
Current plans will see the 14.5 km stretch of road reclaim large areas of paddy field and coconut lagoons, as well as bypass the National Waterway 3.
People thinking about booking flights to Cochi or Thiruvananthapuram need not worry however, as there will be plenty of Kerala’s beautiful rural areas remaining when they arrive and officials believe it will benefit tourism in the region.
KRFB chief operating officer Shri Harikesh said: “The proposed highway will give [a] boost to the tourism prospects of Kuttanad and Kumarakom.
“To make [the] project economically viable, part of the stretch will be used to set up commercial firms,” he added.
The new highway will not only upgrade the existing road but also modify its alignment to bypass the busy Kottayam region.
