Elephant Festival (Jaipur)
The Elephant Festival is an annual event which is held in Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan. The Elephant festival, as the name suggests, is held to honour the great beasts. On this day, the elephants are groomed well by their owners. Colours and gold-dust is applied on their skin. Then the elephants are taken out for display before a thrilled audience. The elephants are also used in various competitions such as elephant polo tournaments, elephant races, and tug-off war with humans on one side and the elephants on the other.
Mewar Festival (Udaipur)
The Mewar Festival is celebrated annually, to welcome the onset of spring. This festival is celebrated in Udaipur with great pomp and show on the beautiful lake of Udaipur. One of the main highlights of the festival is a procession by the Rajasthani folk singers and dancers, dressed in their traditional cultural attires. Along with this, there is a procession of Rajasthani women who carry images and idols of the Hindu Goddess Gauri to the tranquil and calm, Lake Pichola. Amidst the loud Rajasthani ballads and chanting by the folk bards the festival is concluded by a final procession boat procession on the lake. The festival also features a number of cultural rituals where the culture of Rajasthan is exhibited through firework displays, drama performances, dances and folk songs.
