This year’s Durga Puja festival will highlight the delights of Bengal.
Tourism chiefs in India are hoping to use Mumbai’s Lokhandwala to highlight the beauty of the West Bengal region of the country in a bid to attract more international visitors to the area.
Popular Hindi film singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya, who is the creative force behind the upcoming Lokhandwala during the Durga Puja, confirmed that this year’s theme is set to be Bengal.
This means that the celebration which takes place in October will showcase Darjeeling, Dooars, Digha, Sundarbans and other Bengali destinations, as well as making the state’s handloom, handicraft and favourite cuisines take centre stage.
People from all over the India flood into the region to pay homage to the goddess Durga, while the event is a favourite for international tourists who get to see the country at its most vibrant.
Last year’s theme was the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, which was well received by both Indians and foreigners.
